Second Grade News!

Dear Parents,
This is just a reminder that there is no homework for the week due to Iowa testing.
Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and is on time each day. There is a field trip planned to Green Spot Pumpkin Patch on October 20th. I will need parent drivers. If you are interested in being a driver, please make sure you are finger printed through the Diocese and have completed the safe environment training. We will leave school at 9:00 and return around 1:00. The cost per student is eight dollars. Parent drivers pay as well. Please return the permission slip and money by Oct. 12th.
Our AR reading program is coming along nicely and the students are taking tests daily. The goal of this reading program is to increase your child's fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Research shows the more a child practices reading on a daily basis, the more fluent he/she becomes. This includes being read to by an adult, reading aloud to a parent, and reading silently. Second graders should be reading 80 words per minute at this time. Practicing reading will help your child increase this level. Thank you for your continued support!

Second Grade News!

Dear Parents,
Please help your child study the fact families. A fact family is a set of related facts. We have been practicing them in class and they are useful when studying the math facts. Here are a few examples:
8+5=13 5+8=13 13-8=5 13-5=8
9+6=15 6+9=15 15-6=9 15-9=6

Also, we will be having an apple tasting center on Thursday. If you are interested in donating the following types of apples: granny smith, red and yellow delicious, or any other kind, please let me know. Each child does not need an individual apple. We cut them into pieces so I would just need four or five of each kind. Thanks a bunch!!
