Second Grade News!

Note: This week is a busy one as far as events. We have the Great CA Shake-Out on Thursday where we will be practicing being earthquake safe in our classroom. Please help your child with the Home Hazard Hunt paper. This helps you to keep your home safe in the event of an earthquake. Also, the Math-a-thon is this Friday. All students will be given the test and it will count as a grade. It is on the addition facts. Please help your child practice the facts.
More news: We will be doing a Religion collage on Tuesday and I am asking for donations of magazines for that day. The students will be cutting pictures out of them so I will need to keep them. Thank you for your help!!
Some students have not turned in their money for the field trip. Please send it in as soon as possible. It looks like I have enough drivers. Thank you parents for driving!!

Second Grade News!

Dear Parents,
This is just a reminder that there is no homework for the week due to Iowa testing.
Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and is on time each day. There is a field trip planned to Green Spot Pumpkin Patch on October 20th. I will need parent drivers. If you are interested in being a driver, please make sure you are finger printed through the Diocese and have completed the safe environment training. We will leave school at 9:00 and return around 1:00. The cost per student is eight dollars. Parent drivers pay as well. Please return the permission slip and money by Oct. 12th.
Our AR reading program is coming along nicely and the students are taking tests daily. The goal of this reading program is to increase your child's fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Research shows the more a child practices reading on a daily basis, the more fluent he/she becomes. This includes being read to by an adult, reading aloud to a parent, and reading silently. Second graders should be reading 80 words per minute at this time. Practicing reading will help your child increase this level. Thank you for your continued support!
